The Staff

Kathryn Walton (President and course teacher) was born in Manchester, England. She studied at the University of Manchester from which she graduated with a degree in English Literature and Theatre Studies in 1984. Kathryn then moved to Lerici and for over 20 years has taught English at all levels both in the state school and in the private sector. She is a qualified teacher of adults and children, having gained the Certificate for teaching English as a Foreign language in London in 1985, and has considerable experience of teaching adults in a business and commercial context as well as conversational English. She has extensive experience of the Cambridge examination system and has been a Cambridge oral examiner since 1989. Kathryn has been a teacher trainer for the elementary and media school teachers in Liguria and Tuscany for the last 10 years. As well as teaching English, Kathryn is much in demand as a interpreter and translator. She has translated extensively at national and international events such as conferences and trade fairs from London to the United Arab Emirates.

Carolyn Scott ( Secretary and course teacher) was born in the West Country of England. After living in Salisbury and near Portsmouth in Hampshire she attended the University of Oxford from which she graduated in 1988 with a degree in French and German. She passed the TEFL certificate after taking the course at International House, London and moved to La Spezia, Italy where she has lived and taught for nearly twenty years. She has worked as a translator and interpreter in both commercial and academic fields.
What is “English Link”?

English Link is a non profit-making Association of members of different nationalities which aims to introduce or discuss certain elements of the English-speaking world culture in La Spezia. Founded by Kathryn Walton and Sandra Beresford in 2004 English Link offers its members the chance to take part in various activities from social events in English to courses to enable adults and younger members to improve their English as a springboard to opportunities in school, at work or travelling around the globe. In the summer of 2006 Carolyn Scott took over from Sandra and now works with Kathryn in the various activities at English Link.
English Courses

For members who wish to improve their English, courses are organized both for adults and for younger members. Once a year for students on these courses that have identity cards valid for travel abroad, there is the chance to take part in trips to some destination in Great Britain.

What does it mean to be a member of English Link?
For 18+ members you can attend monthly social evenings, it doesn’t matter what level of English you are, on these evenings members are encouraged to participate in various activities often based around a theme, where English is spoken, and where we can learn more about the traditions and culture of the English speaking world. As a member you can take advantage of the vast range of material kept at English Link, for research, study, enjoyment and curiosity Membership is valid for one year from the date of enrolment. Cost : For members over 18 years of age the membership costs €30 per year For members under 18 the membership fee is €20 per year
